The Apostolic Nunciature in Belgrade announced on 5 November 2022 that Pope Francis appointed Mons. Ladislav Nemet, the former Bishop of Zrenjanin and the president of the International Episcopal Conference of Saints Cyril and Methodius, as the new Archbishop of Belgrade and Metropolitan of the Belgrade Archdiocese.

Until the enthronement of the new Archbishop of Belgrade which should take place in December 2022, Mons. Nemet will continue to manage Diocese of Zrenjanin as an Apostolic administrator. In the same time previous archbishop and metropolitan of the Belgrade Archdiocese Mons. Stanislav Hocevar will handle the Belgrade Archdiocese as an Apostolic administrator.
