Pope Francis created 20 new  cardinals from five continents at the Ordinary Public Consistory during the ceremony in St. Peter’s Basilica on August 27, 2022. The total number of cardinals is now 226, while only 132 of them participate in the electoral Papal Conclave due to the age limit.
