The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, received today the Secretary of the Holy See for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, and on that occasion, said that the relations between Serbia and the Holy See are based on true mutual respect and trust, and that our country is determined to improve them in the long run.

President Vučić expressed his gratitude to the Holy See for the importance it attaches to relations with Serbia, as well as for respecting the territorial integrity of Serbia through the principled position on non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo.

President Vučić reminded of his visit to the Vatican and the wise words of Pope Francis that he heard at the time, which convinced him of the concurrence of views on many important regional and international issues.

President Vučić presented his views on the situation in the region, and Archbishop Gallagher conveyed that the Vatican has noticed how much President Vučić contributes to peace and stability in the region with his statements and work. He also said that the region remains a priority for the Holy See and that they are aware of the challenges it faces.

The two interlocutors also talked about what the Republic of Serbia can do for the Catholic Church in our country, especially about the process of restitution of its property.
